On March 21–22, 2026, the International Taijiquan Day & 1st Taijiquan Open Tournament was successfully held in Auckland.
The event brought together 11 teams from Auckland and the surrounding areas, with nearly 400 Taijiquan practitioners. Through every graceful movement, participants showcased the wisdom of the East and the harmony of mind and body, presenting a grand Taijiquan celebration that seamlessly blended competition and cultural exchange.
Among the distinguished guests were Chen Shijie, Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Auckland; Zhang Junhao and Lu Nan, Members of the New Zealand Parliament; and Dan Hikuroa, Cultural Commissioner of the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO. Media representatives, community leaders, and university delegates were also present, making the event a vibrant meeting point of diverse cultures.
Over the two days of competition, participants from different regions shared the stage, learning from one another and honing their skills. Taijiquan is more than a competitive sport — it is a form of exchange that transcends language. As the final medal was awarded, this gathering of Taijiquan enthusiasts drew to a close. Yet in every breath, the resonance of culture continues.
